Roles and Responsibilities of Boards of Education
Boards of education– formerly known as school boards – design and provide educational programs to students in British Columbia. They are responsible for supporting student achievement and managing public schools, and accountable for meeting school and district needs. They also work with community partners to support early learning and literacy programs.
Each board operates according to the terms of an Achievement Contract with the Minister of Education. Click here to find a copy of your district’s contract.
Many districts also have Aboriginal Enhancement Agreements that support continual improvements in Aboriginal students’ academic achievement. Click here for links to districts’ Aboriginal Enhancement Agreements.
