Grade Expectations

One of the best ways to help children succeed in school is to understand what they’re learning, how they’re developing, and what the education system expects of them – year by year, grade by grade. Recognizing the critical role of parent involvement in children’s learning, the Ministry of Education has developed resources that provide this information – as well as a series of parent guides that you can use at home.

Click here for a series of links to grade-by-grade descriptions of how children typically grow, learn and develop between Kindergarten and Grade 9.

Click these links to view a series of Helping Your Child Learn booklets, also designed for parents with children in Kindergarten to Grade 3, Grades 4 to 7, and Grades 8 to 9.

For tips on supporting student learning in Grades 10 – 12, see the Graduation section of this website. You may also want to look at options for parent involvement in the school system.
